If you’re like me and decided that you want to make some guaranteed money right away, then you’ll want to go ahead and sign up for a writing account with Textbroker.

Registration

1. Navigate to Textbroker

2. Click on I Write Content. Textbroker allows you to sign up as either a client (someone who places orders for authors to write), a writer (you: the one who writes content) or both. Since you want to write the content and make money, make sure you click on the link saying you write content.

3. Click on the blue button that says Free Author Registration! Here is where you’ll have to read all the rules and the Textbroker Privacy Policy and Terms of Condition before inputting your name, address and other necessary sign-up information.

4. Select your areas of expertise. These are basically the topics that you want to write about and the ones that you feel like you’re most competent in. You can select as many areas of expertise as you like, but only select ones that you actually have some knowledge of since that indicates to clients that you’re willing to write on those topics. Don’t stress about areas of expertise, though, because you can change these later, and just because you don’t have a category selected doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to write about it.

Considerations

If you’ve went ahead and completed step 3, then you’ve no doubt already seen that there are a few considerations you’ll have to attend to before you can complete your registration as a Textbroker author.

At the time this article was written (and even back when I applied nearly a decade ago), Textbroker is only accepting authors based in the United States. Although they serve clients in the UK, Australia and even India and other countries, they only want US authors (perhaps because it’s easier for them to deal with taxes and payments that way).
You have to be at least 18 years old to work at Textbroker. While you might think you can slide since this is an online gig, you can’t because Textbroker now requires you to send in a photocopy of your ID, proving your name, date of birth and address. You can either scan your ID with a physical scanner and upload it to your computer that way, or take a picture of it with your smartphone’s camera and send it to your computer that way.
Obviously, you also have to be either a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident and need to submit documentation proving such. If you scanned your ID, then that’s serves as sufficient proof of US residency.
You must have a PayPal account. Textbroker doesn’t cut hard copy checks. Instead, all payments are made through PayPal, so if you don’t already have a PayPal account, then you can go to the PayPal website to sign up for a free account.
Although you don’t have to use the same email address that you use for your PayPal account when you register on Textbroker, you do need to make sure that you have access to the email account that you use as your login for Textbroker since this email address is where you’ll receive all correspondence from the Textbroker system.

Finally, after you’ve filled out the registration form, then you have to check your email account and click on the activation link Textbroker sent you. If you don’t click on the activation link, then your account isn’t active and will eventually be deleted.
